Sažetak
The costs of maintenance, i.e. protection, repair and reconstruction of the too quickly weathered concrete structures in maritime environment, are too high, even for the most developed countries. In Croatia, the most frequently used example is the Adriatic bridge Krk. Total estimated protection costs of the bridge mainland-island of Krk are almost equal to the construction costs. Without detailed analyses it is very difficult to distinguish the real causes of the beginning of concrete destruction and the share of various types of destruction. Destruction processes are usually very slow. The concrete durability depends on its composition and structure and, on the other hand, on external effects to which concrete is exposed. In this paper all mechanisms of damages of concrete exposed to maritime environment are presented. For certain mechanisms examples are displayed on bridge mainland-island of Krk. The biggest problem occurred on the bridge was corrosion due to chlorides, which in the time of build of the bridge was novelty.
