Sažetak
Host-guest chemistry has led to the development of understanding how to arrange electrondonating groups in space for the recognition of cations. Calixarenes, crown ethers, cryptands and other host compounds have been studied for decades. We report the synthesis of a series of cryptands that contain aliphatic spacer such as adamantane, oxa-adamantane and noradamantane moiety. These are of interest as complexing agents for selective metal ion separation and transport. To assess both avidity and selectivity of the prepared host molecules toward complex formation with a metal cation guest, we have performed the extraction experiments. The results are compared with the parent [2.2.2]cryptand. The chemical and structural principles of binding, extractions, and transport of alkali cations [Li+, Na+, K+, Rb+, and Cs+] will be discussed.
