Sažetak
Breeding cattle in mountainous Croatian territory is extremely important for the population living in this inhospitable area. This traditional important cattle breeding branch employs a considerable number of workforce, what contributes to employment and living standards in rural areas, what is furthermore especially important for Primorsko- goranska county, where the employment possibility in other economic businesses is minimal. The research was conducted in the area of Primorsko-goranska County. The cow number in Primorsko-goranska county in the year 2006 was 1369 and 415 herds. The most numerous is the brown breed with the average lactation production (305 days) of 3895 kg milk. Two dairies do the milk buying up from the producers in Primorsko-goranska county: KIM Karlovac and PIK Rijeka. The total quantity of the repurchased milk in the year 2005 was 2.027.851 L, while in the year 2006, 1.967.695 L were repurchased (less in relation to previous year for 60.156 L). Raising the entire management of cattle breeding production and positive economical measures of agricultural policy would be a fast and quality solution which would enable milk and beef to become the export raw instead of present import.
