To obtain high-quality information using any chromatographic technique, not only the proper sample preparation procedure and sophisticated instrumentation are sufficient. The analysis of data is usually equally important (especially in the combination with the extensive knowledge on the investigated sample and the measuring technique), and the significance of this point is often underestimated. Thus, a lot of information contained in a chromatogram (a number of chromatographic peaks) is lost. The procedures for data analysis are highly specific and vary significantly from one chromatographic technique to another. Moreover, these procedures incorporate complex methods of numerical analysis, which are difficult to perform without the aid of a computer. At present, a lot of software is available to facilitate the data analysis in chromatography. However, high-demanding scientific procedures are usually missing in those programs. This problem may be solved by home-made software, designed for specific chromatographic technique and for special procedures of data analysis. Thus, a lot of researcher's or engineer's precious time could be saved. To illustrate this, a problem of data treatment in the gel permeation chromatography or size exclusion chromatography (GPC or SEC) is given and a software system for acquisition and treatment of GPC-data is presented...
