Sažetak
Development, design and application of an integral business information system are very complex processes. That is why planning and project management of implementation of an integral information system should be carried out on the state level. Strategic planning of IBIS is a starting point in this process, and putting information in the middle of a corporative success, be it in private or public sectors, is the way in which information is used in the organisation as a crucial factor of their competitiveness, efficiency and finally, their profitability. In the described case study of higher education a good information base can enforce correct decisions, abolish some unjust legacy privileges, and direct the always restricted funding into most promising fields of education and research. All these should help towards establishing of the knowledge society what is an often proclaimed goal.
