Sažetak
In nutrition sense, daily consumption of blackberry wine in recommended quantities (about 250 ml) can be a significant dietary source of essential minerals and could improve health. On the other hand, several metals in wine, such as cadmium, lead and arsenic are toxic and harmful. Therefore, metal content in wine is regulated according to the national legislation and the legislation of the European Union. The heavy metal content in fifteen samples of Croatian blackberry wines was determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS). Investigated wines were collected during 2006–2007 and categorized into two groups according to growing blackberry: conventional and organic samples. Dry ashing procedure has been assayed before metal analysis. The contents of Pb, Cd, Cr, Co, Ni and Al in the investigated blackberry wines were between 13.56–52.81 μg/L, 0.25–3.40 μg/L, 2.28–18.74 μg/L, 1.29–4.43 μg/L, 59.86–278.00 μg/L and 6.01–15.73 mg/L, respectively. The concentration of arsenic was found to be below the detection limit of the method in the analyzed samples. Furthermore, the results obtained by Mann-Whitney test indicated that there were statistically significant differences for cobalt (p=0.015) and lead (p=0.037) content between two groups of samples. The investigated wines made from organically grown blackberry had higher content of these elements when compared with the conventional group, but all studied blackberry wines had the content of cobalt and lead below the internationally established maximum allowed values. Our investigation showed that the concentrations of nickel positively correlate with the concentrations of cobalt (p=0.005) and cadmium (p=0.007) in the analyzed blackberry wines. The content of nickel and aluminum found in studied blackberry wines indicate the necessity for more extended investigations of these elements in Croatian blackberry wines, because the increased content of these metals could be the result of contamination (soil, raw material, wine container, etc).
