Sažetak
We compared HCV genotypes in patients from two HD units having the same isolation facilities, but with different percentage of anti-HCV positive patients (11% vs 30%). HCV RNA polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was performed in 23 previously anti-HCV positive (by 3rd EIA generation) patients. Five patients were from the first and eighteen patients were from the second HD units. HCV genotyping was done by Inno-LIPA assay in all 20 PCR positive patients. In each HD unit exclusively one HCV genotype was found in all PCR positive subjects: in unit I it was exclusively genotype 3, and in unit II it was exclusively genotype 1b. The confirmed homogeneity of HCV genotypes in patients in both units indicate a nosocomial transmission of HCV.
