Sažetak
Field research of grassland vegetation in northwest Croatia was conducted between 1992 and 2001. The data were collected using standard methodology according to Braun-Blanquet (1964). As a result of numerical classification, carried out on a data set of 450 relevés using Ward’s Method in the PC-ORD program, among other clusters, a group was obtained which corresponds phytosociologically to the association Holcetum lanati Issler 1934. This is the first record of this community in Croatia. It is recognisable by the dominant species Holcus lanatus L. The other species with the highest frequencies are: Ranunculus acris L., Plantago lanceolata L., Trifolium pratense L., Galium mollugo L., Anthoxanthum odoratum L., Rumex acetosa L. The stands of the association are recorded in the lowlands of northwest Croatia. During the winter, and in spring, the soil is relatively moist, not or rarely affected by floodwater. It becomes mesic in summer due to loss of moisture. The soil is non-carbonate, nutrient-poor, and shows low pH values. These are hay meadows, mown once or twice per year, with relatively low economic value, since they do not contain high-quality cattle-feed plant species. On the basis of species composition and the results of numerical analyses, the association is assigned to the alliance Arrhenatherion Br.-Bl. 1925, the order Arrhenatheretalia Pawl. 1926, and the class Molinio-Arrhenatheretea Tx. 1937.
