Sažetak
Sensitivity and reliability of ELISA for the serodiagnosis of T. spiralis infection in pigs and humans was examined. At day 14. p.i., out of 6 experimentally infected pigs showed positive ELISA results. At day 28. p.i. all infected animals were ELISA posiive. The highest titers were observed at day 49. p.i. In order to test the realiability of ELISA under field conditions, an examination was carried out in 14 pigs, originating from an outbreak of T. spiralis infection near Vinkovci. Antibodies were detected by ELISA in 8 pigs. The reliability of ELISA results were confirmed by the demonstration of T. spiralis larvae at autopsy, by trichinelloscopy or the digestiuon method, in all serologically positive animals, and by abscens of larvae in all LISA negative animals. In the serodiagnosis of trichinellosis of humans, the ELISA was applied to 15 sera from patients with clinical signs and/or history of T. spiralis infections. Ten sera reacted positively, with titers 1:64 - 1:256. There was a good correlation between positive results and eosinophilia, because only in ELISA positive patients the eosinophilia was present.
