Sažetak
Although the global economic crisis has affected almost all countries of the world, developed and less developed alike, its greatest impact is felt in transition countries and countries that depend upon the inflow of foreign capital. Data on drops in GDP in the period from January to August 2009, together with forecasts for the end of the year, confirm this fact. Based on surveys involving tourists vacationing in rural Istria during July and August 2009, this paper looks at how the economic crisis reflects on tourist flows and tourist behaviour. The paper aims to identify the extent to which the economic crisis has affected demand for Istria’s rural tourism offering, the length of stay and total spending relative to the year prior to the crisis.
