Sažetak
Five experimental systems were tested for the ability to support and/or modulate the differentiation of mammalian (rat and human) neural retina: 1. transplantation of the lensectomized eye cup, 2. transplantation of lentectomized eyeball, 3. transplantation of the adult neural retina, 4. in vitro culture of rat embryonic neural retina and 5. in vitro culture of human embryonic neural retina. Comparing results from the histological analysis we observed that only in our system no. 2 (transplanted eyeball), we could see similar layering of the neural retina as in situ. Therefore, we can conclude that for this feature the natural enviroment (the eyeball) is necessary. However, our results also show that whole embryonic neural retina is able to survive in favourable conditions as under the kydney capsule, but also to some extend when cultured in vitro. In contrast to the above results, the adult retina was resorbed under the kidney capsule. In our experimental systems (no. 4 and 5) we have also found examples of transdifferentiation of rat and human neural retina into lens cells and pigmented epithelium, which is one of the few such examples described in these species.
