Sažetak
Chitosan (CH) based mucoadhesive films may be suitable formulations to obtain buccal delivery of triclosan (TR). A broad antimicrobial spectrum of action and low systemic absorption makes TR a drug of choice for the local treatment of diseases of oral cavity such as plaque, carries and gingivitis. TR is practically insoluble in water, therefore its release from buccal formulations may be severely limited, leading to lack of the drug therapeutic effect. To overcome this obstacle, suitable carriers such as cyclodextrins should be used. These cyclic oligosaccharides, consisting of 6, 7 or 8 a-1, 4 linked glucopiranose, units are biocompatible molecules capable to change the undesirable biopharmaceutical properties of the drugs by inclusion complex formation. The results of presented research have demonstrateh the superior performance of cyclodextrin based chitosan films in comparison to formulation where drug alone was loaded. The paramethers influencing the important biopharmaceutical parameters of the formulation were inwestigated in depth.
