Sažetak
As a carburizer in foundries, regular quality petroleum coke is often used. The selection of a carburizer depends upon many factors, the most important of which are the microstructure, physical-chemical properties and cost. This paper investigates the microstructure and physical-chemical properties of commercial petroleum coke as potential carburizing material in iron-carbon alloys. The content of carbon, sulphur, ash, some of metals (Ni, Fe, V, Na), moisture, volatile matter and density were tested. Microstructure was determined by optical microscopy method. The results are shown that this petroleum coke and similar properties like those can used as carburizer in foundries.
