Sažetak
A category of Crotia's undeveloped, mostly rural, areas consists of 52% of population and 73% of surface. The question of Croatian rural development corresponds to regional development problems. Former regional policy and the policy of rural development did not achieve their goals. Regional divergence and backwardness of rural areas carries on. Croatia needs a modern concept of rural developmentt which includes: integral development ; integral area protection ; integration of development and protection objectives which will contribute to long-term viable development. That is a prerequisite condition for Croatia's larger economic competitiveness and easier access to Europe's integration.
