Sažetak
Decision-making style is a learned, habitual response pattern and one can assume that some personality characteristics and abilities could have an influence on the use of these patterns. We predicted that emotional intelligence would explain an important part of the variance of decision-making, since among other things it relies on the ability to manage one's own emotions. In particular, the rational and intuitive decision-making styles should be positively related to emotional intelligence, since a high level of confidence about problem-solving abilities characterizes them. On the other hand, dependant, avoidant, and spontaneous decision-making styles should be negatively related to emotional intelligence as they indicate less constructive conduct. A self-description questionnaire for measuring emotional intelligence was used, to control the effect of personality on these relations. 310 participants rated themselves on scales of personality (ZKPQ), emotional intelligence (ESCQ), and decision-making styles (DMSQ). The results confirmed our expectations and the incremental validity of emotional intelligence. After controlling for personality traits, emotional intelligence accounts for 1 to 16% of the variance in using particular decision-making styles. More emotionally intelligent participants use rational and intuitive style more frequently than avoidant and spontaneous styles.
