Sažetak
In the first part of the paper private equity investments are explained in detail in order to distinguish the term private equity with its subcategories. Later on the overview of the private equity market, structure as well as the preconditions for its development are given. This is followed by the short overview of the historical development of the private equity market as well as the aggregate trend in the private equity activity. At the end of the article a short research on the private equity industry in Croatia is presented. While in US and in the developed countries, private equity activity had a positive effect on national economies and played the role of development accelerator, some of the CEE countries, like Croatia, still await most of this impact sometime in the future.
