Sažetak
An improved methodology of decision making for ship concept design, with the related design procedures and mathematical models, is presented. The mathematical model includes optimization of the main newbuilding characteristics as well as the optimization of its commercial effects. The Multiattribute decision making method is applied and the ship design analysis model is inbuilt into the decision making shell DeMak developed at the University of Zagreb. Each attribute is defined by the membership grade function based on fuzzy set theory. The consistent relative significance of attributes is obtained as an eigenvector of the subjective decision making matrix (AHP). Inadequate information about the configuration of the feasible designs´ subspace is overcome by sequential adaptive generation of design points in the feasible region (via e.g. adaptive MC method, MOPSO or MOGA). The concept of nondominated designs is used for filtering efficient (Pareto) solutions, being the only significant ones from the designer’s point of view. Selection among efficient solutions is performed by expressing the designer’s heuristic preferences regarding multiple attributes. The nondominated point having a minimal distance from the given target or “ideal” in the subjective/normalized attribute space is selected as “the preferred design”. In practical applications to the general design of those ship types, the developed design procedure and the associated mathematical models for the multi-attribute design synthesis have resulted in a considerable increase of the vessel’s quality measures. It makes this design approach superior to traditional ship design and ranks it among very promising approaches to the tanker and bulk-carrier concept design. The developed interactive design software, with hybrid optimization solvers and 5D graphic supports, can be used for design of a wide range of similar ship types in the Yards and RTD institutions. The adaptation of the mathematical model to different Yard’s design models is very simple and it is possible for the designer to directly in-build design experience of the Yard, with its particular features, or his/her personal experiences and attitudes. The application of the method is presented for the concept design of Capesize bulk-carrier.
