Sažetak
This practical manual has been published in the series “Quintessentials for General Dental Practitioners” by Quintessence Publishing Co. Ltd. It presents the problems and dubious situations related to the choice and today’s use of materials in restorative dentistry in a clear and understandable way, stressing the advantages and disadvantages, as well as indications and contraindications. Although this topic has been discussed earlier, this textbook represents the clinical application, chemical structures, ingredients and classifications of certain materials in a practical mode. The book was written by Christina Mitchell, senior lecturer and consultant for restorative dentistry at the Royal Dental College in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The book is printed in a practical format, with a hardback and solid wrapping. It is divided in eight chapters that discuss questions related to the choice and use of composite materials, compomers and giomers, enamel-dentine adhesive systems, glass-ionomers, dental amalgams, sealant materials, base materials, and materials for protection of the pulp and dentinal wounds. The penultimate chapter deals with the choice and mode of use of materials for finalizing the restorations, while the last chapter presents a short list of curing light sources, stressing the adequate selection of a certain source of light, its advantages and disadvantages in relation to other sources. The book contains a list of commercially available materials along with their structures, and web sites of certain manufacturers, whereby the author is directing the readers towards the news and changes that follow the development and distribution of the new materials. This manual will help in understanding many questions and problems that arise in the use of materials in every day practice.
