Sažetak
Skin reactivity to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (DP), Lepidoglyphus destructor (LD), Tyrophagus putrescentiae (TP) and respiratory symptoms were studied in a random sample of 355 subjects from Zagreb region: 163 men (37.5ą9.8 years ; smokers 110/163=67.5%) and 172 women (36.6ą8.8 years ; smokers 106/172=61.6%). Prick test (PT) with ALK-Abello allergens to DP, LD and TP was performed ba standard method. An urtica D+d/2 of 3 mm and greater was considered a positive skin reaction (PT+). Upper airway symptoms (UAS) and lower airway symptoms were collected by standardized questionnaire. Significantly higher prevalence of PT+ was found in men than in women to DP (26.9% : 12.2% ; p<0.01), to DP (33.1% : 19.2% ; p<0.005) and not to TP (43.6% : 34.3% ; n.s). Among PT+ subjects to DP there was a gresater prevalence of PT+ men than PT+ women to LD (72.7% : 52.4% ; n.s.) and to TP (77.3% : 47.6% ; p<0.01) indicating greater skin cosensitization between house dust mites in men than in women. Significantly higher mena skin reactivity was found in men than in women only to TP (5.13ą2.04 : 4.25ą1.13 ; P<0.01). In PT+ men there were 43/89= 48.3% and in PT+ women 33/67=49.3% of subjects with respiratory symptoms. In PT+ subjects to DP there was higher prevalence of UAS than in PT+ subjects to LD and TP (33.9%:18.7% ; P<0.05). This finding indicates better connection between UAS and skin reactivity to house dust mites than to storage mites. Our results suggest that skin reactivity to storage mites is less specific than to house dust mite. Skin test results to storage mites need careful clinical interpretation and monitoring of the mite allergen levels in environment.
