Sažetak
Literacy and reading include a set of competences needed to each person as a basis for life-long learning and participation in today’s information society. They develop through the entire life and affect all types of libraries, library associations, and institutions related to reading and literacy development and practice. That is why the purpose of the IFLA Literacy and Reading Section is to provide a focal point for the study and discussion of the promotion of reading, print culture and electronic media, and of the integration of reading research and reading development activities into library services for all citizens. The base for life-long learning lies in early childhood. Love for books and reading has to be handed down from parents to children but with help from a lot of people. The famous saying: It takes a village to raise a child, is known all over the world. Libraries must take their responsibilities in tasking their part in the raising of children and making this world a better place.
