Sažetak
This is a summary of the biology and population status of Lilium occidentale, the western lily, throughout its range. All known populations worldwide were mapped and censused, associate vegetation was identified and inventoried, and threats to the long term health of the population were assessed. It was concluded that the western lily is endangered due primarily to competition with aggressive shrubs and trees that have increased in the last 100 years due to fire control. Populations need to be closely monitored throughout the range, and vegetation should be cleared to maintain habitat. In some cases controlled burns were recommended.
