Sažetak
The paper describes and discusses the development of sociology of religion in Croatia after 1991. It does so in the context of four crucial challenges: (1) general shift of the social context, (2) reflection of the change of context in the theoretical and methodological approaches, (3) participation in the international context, (4) role and position of the sociology of religion within the scientific system as well as its relations to other related disciplines that also research the phenomenon of religion. In relation to the social context the paper analyzes the influence of the communist time (and developed sociology of religion from that time), and the influence of the post-communist social changes, marked with the painful transition and in general the new social position of religion. It also gives an overview of all research done and publications issued during the analyzed period indicating what has been researched and from which theoretical positions and what has not been researched. While acknowledging the considerable development of the sociology of religion, the paper in the end points to its weaknesses and future challenges.
