Sažetak
There is a general international consensus that today's societies should be encouraged for learning if they are to adequately answer the challenges that rapidly transform the boundaries of knowledge. In a world characterized by dynamic and complex change, there is a growing need for lifelong learning of individuals and development of learning organizations. The pace by which individuals and organizations learn is considered to be the only sustainable competitive advantage and a necessary answer to comprehensive changes. All this represents a challenge for educational institutions whose primary role is to create and spread knowledge, requesting them to change and develop towards learning organizations. Today, more than ever, the survival and sustainability of the most capable ones in fact signifies the survival and sustainability of the most capable for learning. The learning organization implies numerous changes not only in the structure and organizational forms of education but, even more importantly, also in the professional work of educators and their interaction with the surrounding. This paper critically examines the main characteristics and questions initiated by the concepts of lifelong learning and learning organization seen as an interpretative framework for the development of creativity and innovation, and reflects upon certain types of change that need to be introduced into the professional practice and organizational schemes of managing the professional development of educators.
