Sažetak
Brain lateralization is a common term used to describe dominance of one brain hemisphere over another for specific function. Right hand dominance in writing, controlled by left hemisphere, is presided by development of communicative gesticulation and afterwards with the development of speech in the same hemisphere. We assumed that some people are not aware of their own capability of using the other hand for tasks involving fine motor sequential movements. To prove that hypothesis, participants were asked to perform one trained (writing) and one less-trained task (drawing) with dominant and non-dominant hand. The final sample comprised 1480 children from 19 elementary and 8 high schools in Osijek area, from which 968 elementary school children attending 1st till 4th grade and 512 high school children attending 3rd and 4th grade. Participants were asked to write two words, to draw a particular object (a vase with flowers) and to answer a questionnaire consisted of 10 questions used in classification of handedness and cerebral dominance. Cerebral dominance, tested by questionnaire compared to drawing and writing test, deviated in case of ambidextrous who consider themselves right-handers. The fact that the number of ambidextrous is greater in elementary schools than in high schools brings us to conclusion that training of the right hand decreases the ability of using both hands equally for both tested functions.
