Sažetak
In a period of rapid growth of science and technology, new geopolitical shifts and globalization processes, new metalanguage appears based on global metaphors and global perception of the world, e.g. global village, global market, new world order. These metaphors have become so deeply entrenched in discussions of globalization that it is impossible to understand the globalizing world without them. The point of the new rhetoric is to create the 'global consciousnes' and to convince audiences to imagine themselves as part of our integrated planet and the new world order. Cognitive linguistics has increasingly focused on the use of metaphors in political discourse in recent years. It provides a lens on 'the political mind'. This study concentrates on the exploration of how metaphors are associated with various aspects of contemporary social and political life. Special attention will be paid to the linguistic landscape of the new European space, e.g. common European house, multi-speed Europe, New Europe, Europe of variable geometry, West Balkan, candidate countries, etc. According to G. Lakoff (2008) our future depends critically on which metaphorical conceptions predominate. This paper will try to shed some light on the role of dominant metaphors referring to the proces of globalization and EU integration.
