Sažetak
Prior to 1990, Croatia's environmental policy was weak and environmental protection was usually ignored in favor of industrial production. Croatia's recent war for independence and its subsequent economic transition process have continued to batter its environmental policy. However, recent legal developments, privatization effects and the pursuit of market oriented activities by firms have begun to have a positive impact on the environment. These forces are beginning to come together to determine environmental policy for Croatias future. Manufacturers across a wide variety of industries and waste collection companies within the solid waste management industry were two types of firms that were investigated with respect to their impact on policy platform development. Pioneers among manufacturers suggest innovative and market oriented thinking is a critical element for environmental protection. The solid waste management industry is in need of policy that will facilitate privatization and foreign investment that will increase investment in technology and changes in management activity. The result should be an improved environment for Croatia's future.
