Sažetak
Posterior cerebral artery (PCA) provides arterial blood supply for the most parts of occipital lobe and therefore for primary and associative visual areas located in occipital lobe. Changes of mean blood flow velocities (MBFV) in posterior cerebral arteries during visual stimulation in a group of 51 healthy, right-handed volunteers. There were 27 males (52, 9%) and 24 females (47, 1%) aged from 20 to 59 years. Mean age of the group was 36, 98 years with a standard deviatian (SD) of 10, 43 years. Measurements were made with handheld 2 MHz probe using Transscan 3D EME transcranial Doppler (TCD) device. PCA was identified and insonated through temporal window using standard technique while volunteers had their eyes wide open and closed and while watching white light. In half of volunteers the measurements were performed first on the right side and continued on the left side, while in the other half had reverse procedure. Statistical analysis was made using Wilcoxon's Matched-pairs Signed-rank test. MBFV mean value in left PCA was 41, 2 ą 8, 6 cm/s (mean ą 2SD), with eyes wide open, 27, 8 ą 8, 5 cm/s with eyes closed and 42, 3 ą 9, 1 cm/s while watching white light. MBFV mean value in right PCA was 41 , 7 ą 8, 9 cm/s with eyes wide open, 28, 2 ą 9, 1 cm/s with eyes closed and 42, 4 ą 8, 8 cm/s while watching white light. The differences between eyes open and eyes closed in left PCA and between eyes open and white light were statistically significant (p<0, 041). The difterence between eyes open and eyes closed in right PCA was statistically significant (p<0, 001) but there was no significance between eyes open and white light in right PCA (p=0, 03). The results show that simple visual stimulation has the influence on blood flow velocities in PCA that could be measured with TCD.
