This invention relates to the manufacture of carboxylic acid ester of the formula I, which comprises reacting a carboxylic acid of the formula II with an N-chlorocarbonyl-sec-amide of the formula III and subjecting the resultant mixed anhydride of the formula IV to alcoholysis by means of an alcohol of the formula V.
