Sažetak
Antimicrobial activity of essential oils Salvia officinalis L. as well as of Dalmatian sage oil (Croatia) depends on their chemical composition (1,2). Individual Contentof essential oil ( 1.8-cineole 8.95-16.43%, p-cymene 0.73-1.3%,  +  -thujone 29-68.2% and camphor 7.69-21.64%) depend on the conditions of soil and climate (3,4). Since each chemical component has its own biological activity, the total antimicrobial activity of a given oil sample is different. Examination of stability of antimicribial activity of essential oil (Salvia officinalis L.), which was kept in an open epruvet (6x1.5 cm) for one year, showed that oil remains sterile and rest of the volatile components still produced expressive antimicrobial activity on Bacillus subtilis .Essential oil of Salvia officinalis showed strong effect on Candida sp.,dermathophytes, and Aspergillus flavus. The biosynthesis of aflatoxins B1,B2,G1,G2 with A. flavus was checked and results showed that 3.12% of essential oil have fungistatic activity, while 6.25% have fungicide activity.Concentrations in range of 0.06%,0.04% and 0.02% suppressed sporulation for 7 days (0.005%) and for 2 days (0.0025%) biosynthesis of aflatoxins, while concentration of 0.00125% arouse biosynthesis. Cineol, an active component of essential oil, also suppressed growth of A. flavus in concentration of 6.25%, while fungicide activity was express at the concentration of 12.5%. The range of concentrations 0.16%, 0.08%, 0.04% and 0.02% also suppressed mycelial growth and sporulation for 7 days (0.005%). After 20 days there was no sporulation in concentration of 0.01%, while concentrations of 0.0025% and 0.00125% arouse sporulation for 6 days.
