Sažetak
The presentation focuses on discussion of a specific urban institution – the long-standing institution of the Zagreb International Trade Fair in the 1950s and 1960s, which in itself exemplified the contradictions inherent in the Yugoslav socialist experiment, propagating both a socialist “lifestyle” and westernized consumer culture. This project can trace the appearance of truly trans-local architectural and social issues as well as the early influence of consumerism on architecture and urbanism. Though architectural in its own scale, the dimensions of its impact were immense, and might be traced from the space of everyday life, to trans-regional, trans-national, and trans-continental networks. Interesting is also the impact that the Fair had on the development of the city of Zagreb, its role as an urban experiment, where the city strategically instrumentalized the Fair for its specific urban purposes. The Fair namely gave impetus, and provided political and financial power, for the development of a whole new part of the city, the New Zagreb, a Corbusian “model city” meant to house the modern Socialist society.

Napomena
Međunarodni znanstveni skup "SCALES 1960 – 2010: Architectures > Cities > Landscapes > Europe", održan 03.-04.10.2009. u Budimpešti, oslovljava recentni teritorijalni i arhitektonski pejzaž današnje Europe.
