Sažetak
The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of an electronic apex locator, the Endometer ES-02, in locating the apical constriction. The Endometer ES-02 works by measuring impedance at high frequencies. A total of 515 teeth were examined, and included 265 single-rooted and 250 multirooted teeth. After extirpation of the pulp, each root canal was rinsed with 2% NaOCl solution, dried by paper points, and the root canals were measured with the Endometer ES-02. After conventional endodontic treatment the root canals were obturated with Diaket and gutta-percha points to the apical constriction location measured by Endometer ES-02 device. Afterwards radiographs were taken of the teeth. The diagnostic film, which has been taken using a bisected-angle technique, is measured from the end of filling to the radiographic apex with a digital caliper. Control radiographs showed that the accuracy of the measurement was 95.8%. Radiographs showed that the root canals were incorrectly filled in 42 cases ; this included 11 root canals filled short and 31 overfilled. According to the &#61539 ; 2 test, there were no statistically significant differences between the root canals with vital extirpation and those with pulp necrosis.
