Sažetak
The computer literacy is necessary if we want our students to become educated to use the information technology in solving their professional problems. At the university level the main channel for providing the computer literacy is a first year course in Informatics. The paper presents the obstacles that we face in organising teaching practices in Informatics at Faculty of Economics - Zagreb. Although Faculty of Economics and number of other faculties have recently invested a lot in instructional technology, the conditions are similar everywhere. There is too few teaching staff working with too many students in the crowded computer labs with the obsolete computer technology. This paper presents teaching practice in Informatics in the conditions of restricted resources. We are convinced that the quality of teaching should be improved constantly if we wish our students to acquire high level of the computer literacy. There are two objectives that should be met: (1) to assure the better teaching conditions (the larger number of modern computers and teaching staff) and (2) to assure that continuous improvement of teaching is implemented. First, we present the survey on students' perceptions and needs connected with the teaching practice in Informatics that is implemented at Faculty of Economics. Second, we propose the actions that should be taken in order to achieve the teaching goals and students' needs in the better way.
