Sažetak
The paper discusses decentralisation of economic activities within a metropolitan area. The phenomenon of decentralisation of households and, in recent time, economic activities has been observed in different empirical studies. This documented empirical regularity of decentralisation within metropolitan areas renders standard monocentric model a fairly poor approximation for the reality of most of the cities. In the literature, however, there is no clearcut theoretical explanation for this trend. Given the lack of a universal theory, the paper presents a literature review of different approaches to explain and measure this phenomenon. Using admittedly short time series of data, the paper analyses the process of decentralisation of economic activities within the metropolitan area of Split.
