Sažetak
The question discussed in this paper is whether Croatian terminology should borrow foreign (English) loanwords freely or should Croatian build native Croatian terminology. Basic information about the project ‘Croatian Technical Terminology – a Coordinated Project’ that is conducted by the Institute of Croatian Language and Linguistics and financed by the National Science Foundation is provided. Special attention is paid to the compilation of a terminological manual and the creation of a uniform terminology database. The purpose of this manual is to help systematize and unify work on Croatian terminology ; the terminology database should facilitate the inclusion of Croatian terminology into international databases. We believe that this is the best way to ensure the existence of a small language in a time of globalization.
