Sažetak
Tourism destination denotes an optimally united and market-oriented area in which, by developing important and dominant abilities, conscientious efforts are made to create the prerequisites required to achieve superior tourism performance in the long run in comparison to that of the competition. The tourist destination is the answer to modern trends in spending leisure time. It provides the fundamental institutional framework for formulating a concept of tourism development in which the focus of development is shifted from the accommodation facility to the entire surrounding area together with its economic structure (town, region, zone, country). Tourism development of the destination must be based on the principles of sustainable tourism development concept. Environmental protection is an integral and crucial part of sustainable development concept. In the paper different instruments of environmental protection will be presented.
