Sažetak
Self-efficacy is an important prospective predictor for behavior modification. As for weight loss intervention, many studies have shown significant associations between situation specific self-efficacy and weight loss. The aim of the current study was to examine in observational study design whether weight loss self-efficacy, binge eating, body dissatisfaction, anger control and expression, and depressive symptoms predicted weight loss during treatment with prospective data from 62 participants (13 women and 49 men). All parti¬cipants had cardiovascular diseases and were enrolled in an obesity treatment pro¬gram (with diet suggestions and exercising). The average age of participant was 57.85 years and BMI was 31.9 kg/m2. Patients were assessed twice in a period of 18 months. Higher pre-treatment levels of body dissatisfaction and anger control pre¬dicted lower weight loss in subjects and higher BMI. Elevated self-efficacy was a significant predictor for patients that lose higher weight and had lower post-treat¬ment BMI. Results suggest that certain baseline psychological variables have a role in influencing weight loss in “real world” obesity treatments, and there they should be considered when planning and implementing weight loss interventions.
