Sažetak
We present results of a scientific literacy survey, concerning some basic concepts of waves and optics. The survey has been done as an anonymous query which examined 167 adult people, aged 20 to 75. The questions in the query were ones that could easily be answered after having elementary school physics curriculum and they deal with recognition of basic concepts such as wave propagation, velocity of sound and radiation energy. Some questions concern physical principles and devices known from everyday life, medicine and technology, for example: reflection on the mirror, ultrasound, radar, laser and the lens in the human eye. The results were compared with similar surveys in the field of mechanics and optics.
