Sažetak
Plasma as a fourth state of matter which is rich of radicals and energetic particles is ideal medium for various technological applications. Related to the marine technology this covers wide range of possibilities from analyses and treatment of ballast waters, towards applications in welding or plasma modifications of surfaces in contact with the seawater. In the Laboratory for laser spectroscopy of cold plasmas at the Institute of Physics, Zagreb we use and study various laser-induced plasmas and low temperature inductively coupled plasmas with main emphasis to develop spectroscopic methods for the control of plasma treatments of various materials. Optical emission spectroscopy (OES) using miniature fiber spectrometers offers versatile tool for in-situ monitoring and diagnostics of various plasma processes. Several examples will be presented such as OES monitoring of plasma sterilization or plasma polymer treatments and plasma thin-film deposition. Laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is recently developed technique suitable for remote sensing of soils and liquids. Detection of trace elements or heavy metals in (sea) water with LIBS will be discussed. Prospects of applying existing plasma technology in Zagreb for several aspects of marine technologies will be discussed.
