Sažetak
Properties of the general circulation simulated by ECMWF model are discussed. The paper presents a series of diagnostics of extratropical variability with the emphasis on the northern winter. Shortcomings of the simulations are revealed by studying projections of the 5-day mean fields onto empirical orthogonal functions.
