Sažetak
In 1990, when the Iron Curtain was raised, many people in Central and Eastern Europe expected a short period of economic adjustment followed by a quick resumption of economic growth. But the reality was different: a pronounced decline in production and social welfare has been observed in all transition countries. Transition from centralized state control toward decentralized market economy turned out to be much more difficult than anyone could have believed. Although scarce capital investment, inadequate policy levers, and other economic factors are generally seen as primary causes of the deficient development, other factors may have been important too. This symposium focuses on the role of psychological and psychosocial factors that could have influenced the transition processes.
