Sažetak
Introduction: Thyroid gland disorders indicate a constant rising trend in general incidence of registered disorders and conditions of the population. Manifestations of thyroid gland disorders are related to stressful situations or stressful way of life and business. Aim: To establish the incidence of thyroid gland disorders in managerial population and to compare it with that of the general population. Methods: Managerial population has regular medical check-ups. An integral part of such check-ups is thyroid gland diagnostics: laboratory parameters FT3, FT4, TSH, and thyroid ultrasonography. During 2006 and 2007, 567 examinees from managerial population were examined and their results were compared with the same number of examinees from the control group - examinees who also had thorough medical check ups, but are not part of the managerial population. Results: 567 examinees (aged 20 - 64) from the managerial population were examined (357 women and 210 men). The results of their diagnostic tests were compared with the group that is not part of the managerial population. The incidence of thyroid gland disorders is 3.21% higher in male managers and 5.12% higher in female managers, collective for all tested parameters. Discussion: Managerial way of life and type of work is closely connected with stressful situations which arise from the need of deciding on human and material recourses. In general screening within medical check-ups full attention has been paid to the prevention of thyroid gland disorders. By comparing groups of managers with general population we observed the connection of stressful events with the increased incedence of thyroid gland disorders. Conslusion: It is necessary to conduct targeted tests within medical check-ups of both managers and general population, with the aim of preventive diagnostic of thyroid gland disorders.
