Sažetak
As a dramatic work which typifies both the composer Philip Glass and his music, David Ives's one-act play 'Philip Glass Buys a Loaf of Bread' contains a variety of audibly transferred human emotions, combines elements of comedy and tragedy through its complex and mechanical structure, and projects chaos and mass hypnosis caused by an inner reaction to an everyday moment in which all action occurs inside the protagonists. This essay observes Ives's play in view of the philosophy of the Theatre of the Absurd, theories on sound, character constellation and paralinguistic features, as well as emotions and human consciousness, in order to reveal the complexity and artistic magnitude of 'Philip Glass Buys a Loaf of Bread'.
