Sažetak
The inner parts of rural Istra are full of cultural, historical, traditional and natural attractions which are insufficiently recognized and valorized in Istra tourism offer. The closeness of rural and coastal Istra and tourism markets as a suitable geographical and transit position is an important factor of tourism attractiveness and a great potential for tourism offer development. Our starting hypothesis remains the fact that introducing tourists with the cultural and historical heritage of the country or destination is one of the primary animation goals. It has an aspect of individual experience to which modern tourists desire and its valorizes the resources in the tourism offer. In order to defend this hypothesis authors of this paper have done field research ; first part had an aim of recognizing existent cultural and historical heritage while the second part was done through a questionnaire on tourists during the tourism season in order to find out their motives for coming to Istra, to rural Istra and if such heritage is a motive for a vacation. Cultural-historical localities in Istra have traditional and natural attractive places which can become an important factor in destination and vacation planning beside the sun and sea option, attracting tourists to rural areas of Istra.
