Sažetak
Tourism headed towards rural Istria is on the increase, with higher numbers each year. In these rural areas there has been an increase in attractions, capacities, longer stays and visits, and tourist expenditures. The intense growth in tourism in the rural areas had inspired research to discover what the main factors are that are contributing to the growth of rural tourism in Istria. What is attracting tourists to stay and visit areas, and are they happy with their visits in rural Istria? A touristic destination attractive is the visitors staying are satisfied with the hospitality they are receiving. The basis of this research is dependent on the views of the tourists being questioned about why they visited, how they were catered to, and how they viewed the price levels in the rural touristic areas of Istria. The research done and data collected was to test the hypothesis that the competitiveness of agro tourism is directly related to tourist’s desire to visit, satisfaction of their stay and how well informed the guest is. This hypothesis prompts the understanding that in order to maintain a touristic destination there has to be developments that will cater to the visitor’s expectations and how that tourist perceives the destination. The results that are shown within the research conducted were obtained by surveying over 150 tourists who were at the time staying in Istria on private accommodations in 2007. In order for these results to be balanced, they will also be compared to the results that were collected when surveying tourists in coastal areas of Istria.
