Sažetak
School as an educational istitution stimulates and directs socialization, while all the processes present in a wider sociocultural context, including the problems of immigrants and the host society, affect in a special way the school life. Therefore, the investigation was based on the assumption that some initial phases of the acculturation process (contact, communication, adjustment and partial evaluation) as well as attitudes toward its outward forms (speech, behaviour, clothes) can be also determined among pupils attending elementary and secondary schools. The investigation was carried out on the displaced/refugee children and those from the host population in the town of Hvar, Croatia with the purpose of :a) identifying the external forms of acculturation, and b) evaluating the quality of contacts (communication) between the two groups of children , as well as the degree of their openess for communication and the quality of their mutual perceptions.
