Sažetak
Three-hundred-ninety-three children aged up to 36 months were followed over one year period in order to found out the incidence of acute and recurrent otitis media. Hundred-seventy-five (44, 5%) of the children were suffering from acute otitis media, and 40 (22, 9%) from its recurrence. An age disposition for the occurrence of acute otitis media has not been observed, while infancy has proved to be a significant age for the recurrence of the illness. Gestational age and nutritional status did not have a significant impact on the occurrence of acute otitis media. Breastfeeding for more than three months had a significant impact on the decreased incidence of acute otitis media, while it did not have any impact on the recurrence of the illness. The incidence of recurrent acute otitis media was significantly higher in the infants who had not been breastfed, as well as in hypotrophic neonates. The authors point to high incidence of acute and recurring otitis media in children, which is often neglected because of its co-ocurrence with inflammations of the rest of the respiratory system, and therefore results in inadequate treatment.
