Sažetak
Contemporary society has experienced a remarkable time-space compression as people travel more conveniently and cheaply than ever before. However, in its social and cultural effects, this change was not linear and progressive and it is our aim to identify cultural trends behind this dramatic contemporary increase in mobility and communication. Tourism is a key cultural form of connectivity across the world and it is not limited to the social margins, resorts and times away from home. The new mobility paradigm does not view places as territorially fixed entities and separate from those visiting them, but implicated within and produced through corporeal and social performances of tourists that make places touristic. By focusing on the effects of increasing mobilities of people and objects and new ways of sensing a touristic world, this work advocates the view that tourism education should encourage innovative theories, which would contribute to the development of students’ more active interest for their physical, social and cultural surroundings. Tourism means more than measuring the performance of the tourism economy or reducing tourism to acts of leisure and recreation. Tourism is a mode of relating to the world in postmodern cultures. The principle task of tourism education should be to substantiate alternative views and provide a subtle and inspiring framework for thinking about the ever changing nature of tourism.
