Sažetak
The structural design of cruise ships in the initial and final stage is described. The former approach is based on a two-step FEM strength analysis, i.e. on 3D analysis of hull midship portion and a 2D analysis of the complete ship structure. The latter approach is a check of the global strength of the final and complete ship structure by a coarse 3D FEM model. The first step of the former analysis is illustrated for the case of a cruise ship. Longitudinal and transverse strength for the loads given in accordance with the classification rules is analyzed. A fine 3D FEM model of the hull midhsip portion is constructed and the superelement technique is employed. Stress concentrations in the areas of the lifeboat recess, large windows and lift openings are analyzed and some recommendations to improve the structure design are given.
