Sažetak
The paper gives a brief insight into the main views, ideas and messages from the Western Balkans region discussed at the conference plenary, given by the rapporteur. It focuses on the political, economic and cultural dimension of reintegration of Western Balkans into the European mainstream ; the “double” solidarity of the EU integration process and the future of the region. It takes into consideration some individual achievements and challenges of the Stabilisation and Association Process countries regarding establishing institutional relations with the EU, progress in reaching the EU membership criteria, regional cooperation, institutional capacity building, readiness to efficiently absorb the pre-accession funds as well as public support for EU accession and challenges of future EU membership. Completition of the Fifth enlargement proved that the EU accession was a strong engine, catalyst of development and anchor of reforms and stability, but in the same time it opened questions related to further deepening and widening of the EU, speed and limits of further enlargement.
