Sažetak
Permanent Mediterranean rivers are typical for Dinaric karst region. Overall, faunistics and ecology of aquatic insects of these rivers are still poorly investigated. Therefore, here we present the caddisfly community structure in a regulated Mediterranean karst river in Croatia ; River Cetina. The River Cetina is unfortunately highly regulated, having five hydroelectric power plants and three reservoirs. Caddisflies were sampled at nine sites along the River Cetina and one site at its tributary, the River Ruda. Samples were collected from August 2004 to August 2005. A total of 4574 individuals representing 36 species were collected. CCA and MDS analyses were conducted in order to identify environmental variables that significantly influence the community composition of caddisflies. Nine environmental variables were considered ; substrate type, water depth, water temperature, pH value, dissolved oxygen, electroconductivity, alkalinity, COD, nitrate. Of these environmental variables, water temperature and substrate type were found to be the most important for the community structure. Species assemblages within the community were also determined using cluster analysis. Differences in the composition of caddisfly communities were recorded in different parts of the River Cetina (upper, middle, and lower reach) but also on different substrates. Sites from particular reach were mostly grouped together due to similarities in community composition. However, similarity of assemblages found in similar microhabitats at different reaches was also recorded.
